One Difference is that while y = x 2 y = x^2 is continuous, y = x 4 x 2 y = \frac{x^4}{x^2} has an asymptote at x = 0 x = 0 , as 0 0 \frac{0}{0} is indeterminate.

Both of them are parabolas with same geometry, but the first has no point at ( 0 , 0 ) (0,0)
