Usage of product and chain rule

Calculus Level 2

Given term: f ( x ) = ( 2 x 3 ) ( 8 x ) 2 f(x)=(2x-3)(8-x)^2 Evaluate f ( x ) f'(x)

6 x 2 70 x + 176 6x^2-70x+176 4 x 2 46 x + 118 4x^2-46x+118 6 x 2 + 70 x 176 6x^2+70x-176

  • Using both the product and chain rule, we get: f ( x ) = 2 ( 8 x ) 2 + ( 2 x 3 ) ( ( 2 ( 8 x ) ( 1 ) ) f'(x)=2(8-x)^2+(2x-3)((2(8-x)(-1))
  • Simplify using the binomial formula: f ( x ) = 2 ( 64 16 x + x 2 ) + ( 2 x 3 ) ( ( 2 ( 8 x ) ( 1 ) ) f'(x)=2(64-16x+x^2)+(2x-3)((2(8-x)(-1))
  • The rest is a simplification of an algebraic expression: f ( x ) = 6 x 2 70 x + 176 f'(x)=6x^2-70x+176
