Variable Mass System

Sand falls from a stationary hopper onto a car which is moving with uniform velocity v 0 v_0 . The sand falls at the rate μ \mu into the car and the same freight car is leaking sand at the rate μ \mu , thus keeping its mass constant. The value of horizontal force required to keep the freight car moving at speed v 0 v_0 is :

μ v 0 \mu v_0 μ v 0 3 \frac{\mu v_0}{3} 2 μ v 0 2\mu v_0 μ v 0 2 \frac{\mu v_0}{2}
