While current does have a direction, it does not follow the laws of vector addition, so cannot be considered a vector.

An element of current d I dI is the dot product of the current density J \vec{J} and the vector area d S \vec{dS} , implying that electric current I = J d S I = \displaystyle \int \vec{J} \cdot \vec{dS} is a scalar quanity.
