Call the pair x and y. x + y = q , a b s ( x y ) = p , x × y = r x+y=q, abs(x-y)=p, x \times y=r . x= p + q 2 \frac{p+q}{2} and y= q p 2 \frac{q-p}{2} . r must equal q 2 p 2 4 \frac{q^{2}-p^{2}}{4}
