Theorem : d d x a x n = a n x n 1 \dfrac{d}{dx} ax^{n} = anx^{n-1} .

Therefore, f ( x ) = d d x 6 x 2 = ( 6 ) ( 2 ) x 2 1 = 12 x f'(x) = \dfrac{d}{dx} 6x^{2} = (6)(2)x^{2-1} = \boxed{12x} .

For proof of the theorem, see this .
