Logic Level 1

We have two soap of equal weights and a 3/4 pound weight. However, after using 1/4 of soap we place all three objects on balance as On one side of balance we place one soap(unused) and on another side, we placed used soap (i.e 3/4th of soap) and 3/4 pound weight.

What is the soap weight?

5 lbs 2 lbs 3 lbs 4 lbs

Based on information provided, we can deduce that 3 4 \frac{3}{4} lbs = 1 4 \frac{1}{4} of soap weight

=> soap weight = 4 × 3 4 4 \times \frac{3}{4} = 3 3 lbs

If 1 4 \frac{1}{4} of the soap is used 3 4 \frac{3}{4} of it is left and if three fourth of the soap + three - fourth lbs =1 soap

Then the 1 4 \frac{1}{4} of it that was used is three fourth lb,

So if 1 4 \frac{1}{4} is three fourth lb then 4 4 \frac{4}{4} is 3 × 4 4 × 4 \frac{3×4}{4×4} = 12 4 \frac{12}{4} = 3 lbs
