|p-6| + p = 6 means |p-6| = 6-p and it happens when p<= 6

If you rearrange the equation you get:

|p-6|+p=6

|p-6|=6-p

The absolute value of a number is always more than or equal to zero so:

|p-6| \geq 0 and therefore 6-p is also greater than or equal to zero.

6-p \geq 0

6 \geq p

p \leq 6
