Water consists of a central oxygen atom with two bonded hydrogen atoms. There are two lone pairs of electrons on the oxygen atom for a total of 3 electron groups. The electron pair geometry of water is tetrahedral, but with the lone pairs and only two terminal atoms, the molecular geometry is bent, or v-shaped.
