Waiting...in reality

How long does one have to wait for a bus that comes every T T minutes on average? Assume that there is variance in the interval time T T and that T T is the average of the intervals.

T 2 \frac{T}{2} < T 2 <\frac{T}{2} > T 2 >\frac{T}{2}

Longer intervals are more likely to be experienced than shorter ones so longer intervals will be 'oversampled', leading to waiting times longer than T 2 \frac{T}{2}
