Our bodies are very warm so when a blanket is wrapped around us, the blanket will keep in our body heat in and the cold out.

The fluffy fibers of the blanket capture pockets of air which is a poor conductor of heat. Heat released from out body gets trapped in these pockets of air and helps keep us warm. Any kind of layering of clothes helps trap air in between which greatly reduces conduction of heat.
