if x is the width, then 36+(14-2x)*x=100. x= 2.192

How did you get the equation?

If x is the width, area of waterway= 20x + 20x + x(14-2x) = 54x - 2x2 Area of bigger rectangle= 14 X 20 = 280. Area of smaller rectangle = 180 Hence, area of waterway = 280 - 180 = 54 x-2x2. 2x2 - 54x +100 = 0. x2 - 27x + 50 = 0. x = 25 or x= 2 Hence, x=2.

14 * 20 = 180 + 2 * w * (20 - w) + 14 * w

280 = 180 - 2 w ^ 2 + 54 w

100 + 2 w ^ 2 - 54 w = 0

w ^ 2 - 27 w + 50 = 0

(w - 2) (w - 25) = 0

S = {2, 25}.

25 is evidently wrong as it is even larger than the biggest size of the rectangle.

(I don't remember the name of such a root, sorry.)

2 m is the answer.

@0699 0699 Let x is width ,therefore width of ground will be 14-2x, Length with figure given will be 20-x since area given is 180sq.Meter therefore (20-x)X(14-2x) =180,and therefore width is 2 Mts Ans.
