1 solution

x x = his total wealth

The remaining wealth after he gave one third to his eldest son and one fourth to his second son is

x 1 3 x 1 4 x = 5 12 x x-\dfrac{1}{3}x-\dfrac{1}{4}x=\dfrac{5}{12}x

The remaining wealth after he gave the half of the previous remaining to his youngest son is

5 12 x 1 2 × 5 12 x = 5 24 x \dfrac{5}{12}x-\dfrac{1}{2} \times \dfrac{5}{12}x=\dfrac{5}{24}x

And this is also equal to Rs. 55000, so

5 24 x = 55000 \dfrac{5}{24}x=55000

x = 24 5 × 55000 = R s . 264000 x=\dfrac{24}{5}\times 55000=Rs.~264000
