Alice made the following statements:

1) John and James are friends.

2) The previous statement is false.

Given that all her statements are true, are John and James friends after all?

The problem comes with the second statement.

It is given that she is true but she says she is not true so it is a contradiction and thus a paradox.

"Don't believe me" is not a statement that is either true or false. It's a command. "Don't listen to me" is another such command that isn't necessarily "true or false".
