Bug escape!

Calculus Level 2

Unfortunately, the scientist's plan fails. The bugs' charge flows into the ground, leaving them neutral, hence causing them to no longer be attracted to the metal pole. They begin to crawl away, spreading out in a circular fashion with the distance from the outermost bug to the pole increasing at 12 cm/s 12 \text{ cm/s} . What is the area of land, in cm 2 \text{cm}^2 , occupied by the bugs after 5 seconds.

Clarifications:

  • The outermost bugs are on the circumference of the circle formed.
  • The area occupied by the bugs includes the space in between them.
