I am travelling from A to B at a speed of 40 km/hr and from B to C at a speed of 60 km/hr. The ratio of distance is . What is my average speed?
Round your answer to the 2 decimal places.

One approach here, is to assume the distance from A to B to be 4 0 km. So you travelled from A to B in one hour. The ratio of distance B C A B = 2 1 , we can see that B C = 8 0 km. From here, solve for the time travelled from B to C and that is 3 4 h o u r s . Now solve for the average speed in the whole trip.
a v e r a g e s p e e d = t o t a l t i m e t o t a l d i s t a n c e = 1 + 4 / 3 4 0 + 8 0 = 5 1 . 4 3 k p h
