I am twice as old as my brother. Ten years from now, I will be 17 years older than him. What was my brother's age ten years ago?

Let M M be my present age and B B be the present age of my brother. Then we have two equations

M = 2 B M=2B and M + 10 = 17 + B + 10 M+10=17+B+10 . From these two equations, B = 17 B=17 . So the age of my brother 10 years ago was 7 7 .
