Answer is 6 hens... 1.5 hens laYs 1.5 eggs in 1.5 days 6 hens can lays 6 eggs in 1.5 days 6 hens can lays 12 eggs in 3 days

1.5 1.5 hens × 1.5 \times 1.5 days × \times factor = 1.5 1.5 eggs

⇒ \Rightarrow factor = 1 / 1.5 = 2 / 3 … ( 1 ) 1/1.5 = 2/3\ldots(1)

x x hens × 3 \times 3 days × \times factor = 12 12 eggs

⇒ x \Rightarrow x hens × 3 \times 3 days × 2 / 3 \times 2/3 = 12 12 eggs

⇒ x = ( 12 / 3 ) ( 3 / 2 ) = 6 \Rightarrow x = (12/3)(3/2) = \boxed6 hens
