This is a simple sum on geometric progression

s = 1 + 1/2 + 1/4 + 1/8 + · ·
multiply it by 1/2, then we get (1/2) s = 1/2 + 1/4 + 1/8 + 1/16 + · · · subtract second equ. from 1st equ.

s- (1/2)s = 1 s/2 = 1 s=2
