Where will it go?

In the diagram below, the triangular wedge is equilateral and free to move on the ground. The 2 pulleys are massless and frictionless. The string is inextensible and massless. Also, the mass of the wedge is M M and the mass of each of the 2 identical blocks is m . m.

Given M = 3 m 2 , M=\frac{3m}{2}, find the acceleration of the mass sliding over the wedge, to 2 decimal places.

The answer is 4.33.

Let Us Assume the accn. of the identical blocks be 'a' with respect to the wedge. let the accn. of the wedge with respect to the ground be 'A'. Also in the frame of reference of the wedge Apply a Pseudo force on the 2 blocks in direction opposite to the accn. of the wedge. thus, making free body diagrams you will have 4 equations of motion solve those to get accn. of the identical blocks as 7 3 g 11 \frac{7\sqrt{3}g}{11} . which is approximately 11.022 m/s^2
