there are two finishing order clare->alison->bunty and bunty->debby->emma hence it is clear from the above clare->alison->bunty->debby->emma

using only the first letters of the runners names, you get: C<A<B and B<D<E, combining those gets C<A<B<D<E.

just write sequence down in either ascending or descending order. It's easier that way
