If a chicken is going to "the other side," which is 10 mi away at a 10 mph constant speed, while a 2nd chicken is moving at a 20 mph speed the first five miles, and a 5 mph speed the rest of the way, which chicken gets there first?

They both start from the same line after 15 min chicken two covers 5 mi while chicken one only covers 2.5 but then chicken 2 lowers his speed chicken one stays at a const speed and it will take him 45 min to finish 7.5*6 while it will take chicken number 2 an hour hence chicken one will finish 15 min before chick 2

Chicken 1 gets to the other side in a time 10 10 = 1 \frac{10}{10}=1 hour. Chicken 2 gets to the other side in a time 5 20 + 5 5 = 1.25 \frac{5}{20}+\frac{5}{5}=1.25 hours. Therefore, chicken 1 gets there first.
