Wind is movement of atmosphere's air, which is caused by pressure differences due to the sun's unequal heat flow to different areas of the earth's surface. Air flows from a high pressure area into a lower pressure. The earth's rotation contributes to creation of atmospheric pressure differences.

Rotation doesn't matter. All planets whether they rotate or not will have wind so long as there is a sun and air... and there is always a sun... answer is ambiguous, just because the rotation makes wind do x y or z doesn't mean it is necessary for the process to exist.

there is not always a sun, there are many planets without stars, called "rogue planets". still, there is probably wind due to the difference in temperature in different altitudes due to the center of the planet being hot nonetheless and chemical phenomena

Rogue planets difference in temperature may cause winds (in case it have a moon to heat its core by tidal effects), but rotation only would cause a perfectly motionless atmosphere. I've done such simulation in CFD.

I agree with Chris, it would be a different story if the earth rotated at an erratic rate. Might be interesting though.

The difference of temperature is due to Sun's heat, not by rotation of earth. Due to Sun rays, the earth surface gets heated and the wind in contact of the surface also get heated. It goes up and the cold air comes to replace it which causes wind. Therefore, the Sun is the main cause for wind.

tbh, i just thought it was simply the uneven heating of the earth's surface and atmosphere wherein the air cools and heats (as it goes up and down) which causes wind :p :/
