Let y y be the number of women at the dance and x x the number of men. Then we are given that

( 2 3 ) y = ( 1 2 ) x y x = 3 4 (\frac{2}{3})y = (\frac{1}{2})x \Longrightarrow \dfrac{y}{x} = \dfrac{3}{4} .

Thus there are 3 3 women to every 4 4 men, in which case the fraction of those attending the dance is

3 3 + 4 = 3 7 \dfrac{3}{3 + 4} = \boxed{\dfrac{3}{7}} .
