You have a gift card that is worth $100 and there are CDs which costs $8 each. You start off with $100 and want to buy n amount of CDs which means you take away that amount.

$100 (the gift card) - $8 ( n amount of CDs) = 100 8 \boxed{100 - 8}

Since this problem is asking you for a basic expression you want to highlight what is needed and asking you for. 1) you have $100 in the gift card you want to spend it on CDs that are on sell for $8 each so the expression will be 100-8n because you are spending money from your gift card not adding more to it.

@I got jams . Good solution! You could have stated more clearly that you were using the gift card to buy the CDs though.
