Since the product of c and 3 is b, we know that 3c = b, and we also know that c = b 3 \frac{b}{3} . The question asks us what the sum of c + 3 is in terms of b. We know that c = b 3 \frac{b}{3} , and so can substitute c with b 3 \frac{b}{3} to get c + 3 = b 3 \frac{b}{3} + 3
