Writing Equations 1

Algebra Level 2

Write two equations from the following information:

There are 24 pieces of fruit ( F F ) in a basket. Each piece of fruit is either an apple or a banana. There are twice as many apples ( A A ) as there are bananas ( B B ).

F = 2 A + B ; A = 2 B F=2A+B; A=2B A + B = F ; 2 A = B A+B=F; 2A=B F = A + B ; A = 2 B F=A+B; A=2B F = A + 2 B ; F = 24 F=A+2B; F=24

There are 24 pieces of fruit (F) in a basket can be rewritten as F = 24 F=24

Each piece of fruit is either an apple or a banana can be rewritten as F = A + B F=A+B

There are twice as many apples (A) as there are bananas (B) can be rewritten as A = 2 B A=2B

"Each piece of fruit is either an apple or a banana." F = A + B \rightarrow F = A + B

"There are twice as many apples ( A A ) as there are bananas ( B B )." A = 2 B \rightarrow A = 2B

Therefore, the answer is F = A + B ; A = 2 B \boxed{F = A + B; A = 2B} .
