2 x = 8 ⟹ x = 4 2x=8\implies x=4

x + y = 7 ⟹ y = 7 − 4 = 3 x+y=7\implies y=7-4=\boxed{3}

Since 2x=8, that means that x equals 4. 7-4 equals 3. That means that y = 3
