The equation y = 0 y=0 describes all points whose y-coordinates are 0 0 . Points which satisfy the equation include ( 1 , 0 ) (1 ,0) , ( 2 , 0 ) (-2, 0) , and ( 0 , 0 ) (0,0) . Clearly, these points all lie on the x-axis and thus the equation denotes the x-axis. Conversely, the equation x = 0 x=0 denotes the y-axis.
