1 to the power anything is just 1. anything to the power 1 is the same thing. use this idea.... a=1;b=342; a^b=1^342=1

b^a=342^1=342

you should do 2(a+b): 2(342+1)=2(343)=686

the answer to the question is ....686!

Is this the correct approach?

Can you be sure that there are no other possible values of a and b? Perhaps your question should specify that a and b are both positive integers.
