Your Teacher's Red Ribbons

Level 2

Your teacher bought 2 rolls of 5-meter ribbons. They are both in red.

She asked you to cut them into individual pieces of equal length.

If you cut them into individual pieces of 75 cm (Her favourite number is 75, so you are sure that it would make her happy), how many pieces would you get?

For those who do not know, 5m = 500cm.

500 75 = 20 3 6.67 \frac{500}{75} = \frac{20}{3} \approx 6.67 . Since there's not enough material in each ribbon to make an seventh piece, you can only make six pieces per ribbon. Thus, you can make 12 \boxed{12} pieces.

Of course, depending on how picky your teacher is, you could always staple the leftover pieces together to get a 13th!
