4 ( 4 x ) + 2 x = 72 4\left(4x\right)+2x=72 16 x + 2 x = 72 16x+2x=72 18 x = 72 18x=72 Now, on dividing both the sides by 18 18 , we get: x = 72 18 x=\frac{72}{18} Therefore, x = 4 \color{#3D99F6}{\boxed{\boxed{x=4}}}

Nice solution. Thanks :)

Well, this was my second experiment. I wanted to see how many upvotes I receive in algebra level 1 problems. In the last one I got 21. People who post solutions to level 5 problems never receive that many upvotes :(

4 ( 4 x ) + 2 x = 72 16 x + 2 x = 72 18 x = 72 x = 72 18 = 4 \begin{aligned} 4(4x) + 2x & = 72\\ 16x + 2x & = 72\\ 18x & = 72\\ x & = \dfrac{72}{18}\\ & = \color{#69047E}{\boxed{4}} \end{aligned}

A small mistake at the second last line. It should be x=72/18, not 72/4.
