Geometry Level 2

A sphere having a radius of 15cm. is cut into 2 segments. The altitude of the first segment is 6cm.. The ratio of the area of zone of the second seggment to that of the first segment can be expressed as a/b. What is a+b?

Area of 1st zone is given by: 2 pi height(altitude given)*radius of sphere. Area of 2nd zone will be: Area of sphere - Area of 1st zone. We get by calculating a/b=(900-180)/180=4/1. Hence a=4 and b=1. Therefore, a+b=5 .

If a Segment is cut, how can the area of Base could be ignored? Term Zone is not a well explained term.
