This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science
related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should
explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments
should further the discussion of math and science.
When posting on Brilliant:
Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

Yesterday :- This is an experiment to demonstrate S curves.
Today:- This is an experiment to demonstrate logistic diferential equations.
Tomorrow:- This is an experiment to demonstrate that the content actually changes! Great work. :P
One problem with this experiment is the lack of new people seeing the post. Other than the group of people with >100 followers, the majority of the people don't have that many followers. This way, the first reshare by, say, Calvin will result in a lot of reshares, but then the number would abruptly stop after that.
The "Exponentail Growth" you seek can't really happen because of the lack of "branching" more than the first or second reshare.
and then this was posted in 2014 of which each no. gets multiplied because of no reason(as there is no reason in the whole comment, the same must be followed here)
which comes out to be 0 but you know this is trailing in this race to get nothing. Therefore, this will be a trailing zero.|

No, I was 12 when I first got on Brilliant and 13 was the lowest setting so I set it there, but then when I turned 13 it turned my age to 14. :[
@Finn Hulse
–
Ahh... I see. For some reason, my age on Brilliant was like, 44 for the first few months, until Silas (very kindly) helped me change it back to 13. Thanks Silas! :D
@Finn Hulse
–
Do you mind doing that for mine also? My scenario is the same as Finn Hulse's(I'm 13 but I had to do the same thing as Finn did). Thanks!
@Finn Hulse
–
I'm not that good... I got 22 on AMC 8, and 4th place on our school round(specifically designed by our Nationals winning coach to choose the team) to get me a spot on the team, then I got a 43 at Chapter(second place, the first, third, and fourth places were also from my school), but failed with a 34 at State. Even though I was the highest scoring seventh grader in SoCal, Northern California had a ton of strong seventh and sixth graders that I'll have to face next year. As for the AMC 10's, I got 130.5 on the A and 126 on the B. I was expecting a perfect on the B, but I derped and read the last two questions wrong and made adding mistakes on two other questions :(.
What about you?
@Tristan Shin
–
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Okay I'm AWFUL under pressure so here's my stats:
AMC 8: 16
AMC 10: 78
MATHCOUNTS Regionals: 27
MATHCOUNTS States: 17
So yeah I am AWFUL under pressure just AWFUL and this is coming from a guy with a 2259 rating in Number Theory. I am literally the worst ever at competitions, but I thrive on Brilliant because there's no stress. :P
@Finn Hulse
–
Well that isn't that bad... I was trained by the Nationals winning coach, after all, so I have to give most of my credit to him. Last year I got a 29 at Chapter, then went from watching the CD Round to being second seed in CD. And same for my AMC scores: I got a score in the 70's for the A and an 84(a bubbling mistake cost me Achievement Roll) on the B last year, thinking that the people that got into AIME were legends. I think that learning under Coach Vaughn(the coach at my school) has really helped me and a lot of other people.
@Tristan Shin
–
Yeah. But it's just sad you know that I score so low on the real thing, but on practices and stuff I get usually almost perfect scores! Also I don't know why I'm asking you but do you have any idea where the National MC problems are? I really want to try my hand and see where I place. :D
Only been 2 years and 10 months. We're 35.1% of the way there! That's better than how long it took New Horizons to cover the distance between Earth and Pluto. :P
Hm... Too bad that in the end it grew more like inverse tangent than exponentially... :/ Or maybe it was the minimum of the set of a constant and the exponential function.
@Boaz Guberman

The amount of users is way [a really strong emphasis on 'way'] more. However the amount of active users is a lot less than that [but still a lot more than a thousand].
Frequency, i.e. number of times over a given period of time. I do think Brilliant.org has a policy now of blocking too frequent of sharing of a particular post. I notice from time to time that someone would reshare a post, and it doesn't show up at the top. This gives other postings a chance to hang around a bit.
Edit: Okay, I just now reshared this to see what happens.
I remember I saw 361th reshare (and I think 362) but after 361 I am not sure about the news. (IF BRILLIANT WAS THE OLDER VERSION IT WOULD BE BETTER!!!!!!!!![unfortunately no])
It's hard for me to read your sad face when your image is a happy face. But it's okay. I'll text Silas and Calvin. It's a little late anyways. Of course, this is to demonstrate exponential growth so when this gets going, I mean, it will seriously get going.
@Daniel Liu
–
Umm... no. Any even number of clicks on the reshare button is equivalent to no reshares at all. Similarly any odd number of clicks on the reshare button counts as one reshare.
@Finn Hulse , you know how this is probably one of the most reshared notes, my 1+1=1 note seems to have a load of likes. It may be close to breaking the likes record.
The problem is that people always have a limited number of followers, so once everyone they follow reshare this note, then their feed will be clear of this soon. As you know, you can't reshare more than once. :D
So... eventually this will be forgotten...
Dude This is kind a question that i expect many people to be asking you but still, Can you tell me what material do you use to study. I am way interested in learning mathematics to its roots. So please help Me!!!
@Finn I have rather a different conclusion that is the "rate of reshare" instead of growing exponentially would rather decrease inverse cotangentially. The explanation I would give for the above is that when first Sir @Calvin reshares it, the post will reach a lot of people, and then other users would reshare it. But also this rate of reshares would go on decreasing as the number of followers of other users would go down so this post will not be able to reach to many people although reshares would still be taking place and hence the rate would go down eventually.
For example - initially you made this post and shared it, then Sir Calvin would have reshared it, then one by one, this post would have been reshared by many other pupils. Although more pupils would start resharing it but it won't reach out to many people as time increases. Like, now when I am resharing this post, it won't reach out to many users because I don't have a large number of followers like you or @Sharky or @Daniel. Similarly, after me maybe someone who has still less number of followers reshares it, won't help it to reach a large number of people. so although reshares are occurring but the rate is not as high as it was initially.
Growth is OK but calling this exponential is ...er..kinda unscientific.Its growing more linearly don't you think?
No,calling it exponential is most unscientific.....putting up such LOL experiments is quite "unbrilliant" of you.
Then again I am resharing it anyways...good for you:)
Then you have to consider the fact that if a person reshares it then all his followers would be inspired to reshare...and this goes on till its all buried in reshares and likes..

does that date and time signify anything?
A 14 year old boy post this on 29/1 at 20:45
Add all the numbers above in the sense that
1 + 4 + 29 + 1 + 20 + 45 = 100
and then this was posted in 2014 of which each no. gets multiplied because of no reason(as there is no reason in the whole comment, the same must be followed here)
