This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

It is A! The total number of points distributed between the players is 30 since 15 games are played altogether. From the given information A gets 6 points, B gets 8, C gets 4, D and F -2 and E gets 4. The remaining 6 points have to be won by D so that it is at 3rd position and moves to the final round.

OK.... since A won 6 points,A must have won 3 games. And B won 8 points, hence it won against every team it played up till now. Then,as D won against A,E won against B and F won against C,we can find that B has won against A,C,D and F.So B's final score is 8.Then,as we can see,A lost 2 of 5 games. One of them is to D.As B only lost to E,B won against A,so A has a total of 6 points. From that ,we can see that C lost to A,B and F.Hence C's score is 4.Now D has to score 6 in total to go to the final. As D only won against A up till now,and lost to B and C,D must have won against E and F.If you can construct a table showing the result,it's not hard to find the final score.
