A Short Meeting of 2 hours : For JEE-Mains Aspirants.

Yesterday, I had a short meeting of 2 hours with my students who are going to appear in JEE-Mains-2015. In the meeting, we discussed a lot of things about the JEE exam and it was the amazing conversation with the class as usual.

The key points of the class, I'm putting down here. I hope it will help you in being quite confident during the exam and giving the best out of you. The conclusions are as follows :

\bullet Wrist Watch :-

You should not carry any kind of watch with you due to the simple reason that it will only increase the stress during the examination. You will have a tendency to look at the time again and again, which is not useful.

And if you think that it will help in having an idea about time and it will help you in time management, then you can ask the time to your invigilator when you feel the need.

\bullet From which section to start the exam :

PHYSICSCHEMISTRYORMATHEMATICSPHYSICS \quad CHEMISTRY \quad OR \quad MATHEMATICS

With regards to this points, you'll get a lot of suggestions from different people. Most of them recommend to start the exam from CHEMISTRY section. May be because CHEMISTRY consumes less time and has several theoretical questions in which calculations are not involved.

I think that whenever you get the paper, first go through the complete paper within max. 3 minutes. On just looking at the paper you'll have a clear idea about the difficulty of the paper and about from which section to start.

\bullet Filling the Circles :

Fill every information very carefully i.e your name, roll no. etc.

In about 2 hours to 2.25 hours, you'll have gone through the whole paper solving the questions which you could solve easily, up to that you figure out the answers of the questions and tick the correct answer in your question. After you've gone through the complete paper for the first time, then fill all the ticked answers in your answer sheet.

And doing so, then onwards, fill the circle at the same time when you solve any question.

\bullet Don't surrender yourself to NOTHING.

If there comes a time during the exam when you feel that you're unable to solve the question, or you feel depressed due to any reason, then don't surrender yourself to the temporary stress.

If you have tried 4-5 questions one after the other, but you could not solve even a single question. What about that time ? Then you need not to go into depression, but you should be happy & more confident at that time. Why ?? I'm explaining. Believe in yourself and your practice and your preparation. You are very good and very intelligent student, but still you could not solve those questions, it means that those questions are really difficult. Most of your competitors (about 90%) feel depressed at that time, and they are out of the competition. So thats are plus point for you that you're still confident and at the top of the competition.

So take yourself out of that situation and go on to solve next questions with more confidence. And everything will be the best.

\bullet Stress Management And Full Utilisation of Time :

Generally what happen that your performance in the starting of the exam and at the end of the exam is not very good. This is the only reason if you find 3 hours insufficient for you to solve JEE-Mains.

In the starting 30 minutes, you solve hardly 8-10 questions, and in the last 30 minutes you solve only hardly 5-7 questions.

In the starting time of your exam, your speed is very slow. May be because you focus on calculations, you try that there should be no calculation and silly mistake. Okay, its fine. But you don't realise that you make more calculation and silly mistakes when you realise that time is left less and questions to be solved are more.

So, from the starting, maintain your speed at a good level. Trust me , it will give you the best result.

And at the end of the exam (about last 30 minutes), Only those questions are left which you find hard to solve, or a little bit lengthy, or some challenging problems. However, you can solve all the left questions at that time, but you are unable to do that. Because you're stressed at that point due to less time is left.

Sometimes, it may happen that you start solving a question, and after spending your 2-4 minutes on that, you find that its going lengthy, so you leave that question and go for another question. And in such things, you waste enough time.

So don't do this. When you've started a question, then don't look back because the question is lengthy, or has weird calculations.

Here is the graph of your performance with time :

If you want to be in the top rankers of JEE_Mains, then you need to maintain the performance in the middle of the graph. and You can do it. You have the potential guys.

\bullet Now you can stop studying for the JEE_Mains. Just chill, have fun, be happy and believe in yourself that you are the best.

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

I'd like to include a quote by a past JEE-Advanced runner up here, "Maths and Physics heat up the brain, while chemistry cools it down. Thus, attempt Chemistry in the middle and choose one out of Maths and Physics in (21)\dbinom{2}{1} ways"
