Adrenaline( also known as epinephrine)

Part of your body which matters a lot in many situations you face everyday, may it be fear, fight or flight(3f's of body). Basic purpose of this hormone is to trigger responses in time of helplessness may it be psychological or physical. It is also triggered in time's when you are really angry and are either fighting with somebody verbally or physically. (and times when you are learning stuff for long time)

Have you ever thought at times when your are running , doing exercises, pumping weights, thinking of quitting or losing and running from a bully or dog and all of a sudden your mind says "Yes, you can do it" and you suddenly feel a rush through your body, breathing increased, body shaking, blood pumping making your body powerful and stronger than before for a few moments. A sense of power that gives you a feeling that you can accomplish anything in this world , that is just your adrenaline in power.

It may get you out of depression or tough situations but shouldn't rely on adrenaline because it is a hormone that travels through out your body , even your brain, where all the decisions are made. Now the decisions are made in an irrational state of mind. Those are the decisions that you regret the most.

Sometimes when you are in a situation where you are feeling depressed and feeling low. And suddenly someone comes and pushes your buttons making you angry and helpless at the same time, or when you are nervous , your emotions are out of control ,you feel overwhelmed. To protect you from harm it triggers adrenaline and bam! comes out some words that are not right for the situation and might hurt the other persons feelings.

So, what to do in situations like these, first relax and take a deep breath, remember a loved one or your God and then make decisions or choose words that might control the situation. Don't let your organs control who you are or what you think and say. Keep your body in check.

If you ever wish to try and trigger adrenaline manually, put you Ear buds on, turn up the volume and select a list of upbeat or rock songs and start doing strenuous activity like running or weigh lifting. After a minute or two you will feel your body tiring , don't stop, keep at it and suddenly you will feel you body sweating, hands shivering, blood pumping and breathing increased. Meaning you have successfully activated adrenaline for a moment of time. [This is basically what your trainers do when the are motivating you , they are actually trying to activate your adrenaline so that you can do more exercise. Also if you feel it is about daily life , write a comment and i will write another note about working of adrenaline in our body. And last but not the least for people who have read my earlier posts and notes , I deeply apologize for the delay in notes and problems but i have my exams going on , so i might not be able to post for some time. Sorry.:(]

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

Adrenaline is the secretion of adrenal glands which are situated over our kidneys, just like a cap. But pituitary gland is the one who gives the command to secrete adrenaline to the adrenal gland. This 'renal' word might be having some connection with kidney. Even blood vessels to (or from) kidney are called as renal vein and renal artery. Does anyone know about this speciality in the word 'renal'?

That's right: adrenaline comes from adrenal-ine, with "adrenal" referring to the glands situated above the kidneys (coming from ad-renal itself).

A Former Brilliant Member - 6 years, 11 months ago

true , your points are valid......renal basically means relating to kidney , nothing special about it and did you the renal artery arises from the abdominal aorta and renal veins arise from inferior vena cava , so the blood basically arises from them and gives them to the kidneys.

@Hardipinder Singh As a clarification, problems and notes tend to be automatically reshared, unless you choose "post to a set". For this option, we do not reshare it yet, in order to allow you to build up a collection.

why hair doesn't grow in our palms

Sriram Venkatesan - 7 years, 1 month ago

bcz we work with our hands all the time and friction created while working dose'nt let the hair to be grown on our palms

Aditya Gaur - 7 years ago

Why hair doesn't grow in our palms ?

Sriram Venkatesan - 7 years, 1 month ago

As you know are palms are in constant friction from carrying stuff , holding thing , rubbing of hands together , clapping . Now as the hand is constantly rubbed it does not give the hair follicles to grow or generate on our palm. You might have also seen our primate relatives also don't have hair on there palms because they use hands for walking or moving , so it has also been a part of are gene from a long time.
