I'll make this short and sweet.
We've seen carbons that are in chains, true? Now, think about the carbons going in a circle or a ring. Hmm...
Take for example,
.It has eight carbons forming a ring, plus they are all single bonds (and nothing other than carbons or hydrogens) octane.
However, it is forming a ring, therefore we name this... a cyclo octane.
Of course, this was a basic example... But it's quite easy to understand.
So yes, you could extend this knowledge and I suppose... make your own structures. Oooh. Comment some below. ^^

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

The correct name for 2 is cyclopenta-1,3-diene. The correct name for 3 is 1-cyclobutyl-2-methylethylcyclobutane.

Ooh. Thanks!
I was in a hurry to type.

I really didn't get what to comment on.Every one knows you can create as many hydrocarbons as possible! In fact, there are much much much more possible isomeric structures in which hydrocarbons can exists than there are actual particles in this universe!

Sorry, I didn't get your point :/

Yes, that's true. I thought it'd be nice to see people get creative or something. Like adding complex groups or so. Hahaha. ^^
Very nice. B|
