I just got a call from my mom that went something like the following: "Hi Finn! Oh, did you hear that I signed you up for some test at the college? I think it's called... Oh, what is it... oh yeah! It's the AMC 10! And by the way... it's tomorrow." You can all imagine that right now I'm freaking out! What do I do to prepare, and what should I expect? How is it graded? What's a good score?

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

I also just searched it. The AMC 10 is a math test of 25 multiple choice questions in 75 minutes using algebra and geometry. I could be wrong, but that would mean that Google would be wrong.
It kind of depends on what your trying to get on it and why you are taking the test. If you are trying to ace it and get into college or something, then you should probably scour the internet. If you are just taking it for some normal reason( whatever that might be because that's not normal) you will probably be fine. Just go over the things that you have learned so far, or something that would be on the A.C.T. The reason that I'm suggesting this is that the ACT is a test that tests how well you have learned your school material. If the AMC 10 is not a test like the ACT, the only other thing that it could be is a logic test, kind of like the SAT. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm guessing that the only type of tests that you can take are things like going over school material,or logic. Plus, since your mom signed you up for it, she probably thought of your strengths. It might involve quite a bit of math and science.

This is not a standardized test. This is for math only, that leads to the AMC10/12, then to the AIME, then to the USAMO/USAJMO, then to the camp, then to IMO. NOT STANDARDIZED TESTS!

Ok ok I'm sorry.
Uh... no I don't think so. I've taken the AMC 8, I was just wondering about the 10 and what to expect that's different from 8.

What was the AMC 8 like?

That's what I've been doing. But I really need to know about what a good score for a 7th grader is.
It depends on whether or not you want to qualify for the AIME. In fact, as of today from the MAA statistic site, there are 3 7th grade perfect scorers on the 10A.

Here.
I'd say a good score to be a 120 or higher. 6 points for every correct answer, 1.5 for every blank, 0 for every wrong. 25 questions, 75 minutes. Good Luck, and see if you can beat me. And it is a very awesome competition that leads to AIME, USAMO, USAJMO, and the IMO.
I just took it and it was REALLY easy, but super hard at the same time. I think I got anywhere from 80 to 120.

A 7th grader in my class got a 130.5 on the AMC10 A, so I would aim higher in 8th grade

I'm in 7th grade, dude.

My scores: 135 on the AMC 10 A and a 139.5 on the AMC 10 B.
That's actually really impressive.

Wait what about the AMC 8? I'm in seventh grade as well (way worse at math than anyone else on here though D: ) and I think I'm going to take that next year...
