Anish's Message board

Finally, I seem to have the time to make my own message board...Ask me any questions, or give me any suggestions or requests, and Ill try to answer them as soon as possible..

Ill also post any notifications for my followers here, one of them being regarding my YouTube channel.
I have uploaded a few videos on my channel, and I hope you like them. I will try my best to upload atleast one video a day, although, it may not be so after a month or so, since Ill be joining an Engineering college very soon.
Please leave a like, a comment or anything on the videos...it makes me happy and motivated!

  Easy Math Editor

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

Anish, may I know how do you learn physics and maths too that much? Can you suggest resources/books/websites etc.? Thanks.

I'm only year 7 (secondary one) and don't know much on physics and maths ..:-(

@A Former Brilliant Member For Physics, I know a few books..but, I doubt you will get those books in your country..Though, you may find them on the internet...The books that I use are, HC Verma and Resnick Halliday

Anish Puthuraya - 7 years ago

I know, right?

Sharky Kesa - 7 years ago

@Anish Puthuraya Can you post a solution here. Looking at its ratings, I wonder if my answer is wrong. Thanks :)

Pranjal Jain - 6 years, 3 months ago

I am very poor in physics , now my aim is just to enjoy physics , whatever the result is, can you please tell me how to start

Whenever I sit to study I am not able to build interest , and then always go to solve a problem of trigonometry or integration .

Thank you sir

The thing that intrigues me about Physics is that I really get to understand my surroundings. Whenever you do something that you like, just think about it in a "Physics" manner.

For eg, I play Guitar. Before I had any interest in Physics, I really couldnt tell people how the guitar creates the sounds. And I really was amazed at how my thinking about guitar changed after I developed interest in Physics. The reason behind the sounds are "Standing Waves"

What I want to say is, just look for something that amazes you, and you cant stop thinking about how it works. Then, see if Physics has the answer.

And finally, to learn how to look at things in the "Physics" way, I highly suggest you to watch the MIT OCW Lectures on Mechanics, Electromagnetism, and Waves by Prof. Walter Lewin (available on YouTube). These are some of the best lectures on Physics I have ever seen.

Im not VERY sure right now, but, probably, Ill be joining BITS-Goa CS..

Hey @Anish Puthuraya ! I suggest you to see if you can get CSE at Jodhpur IIT before finalising your decision about BITS Goa. I remember seeing your score on the website and I think it can fetch you a rank for IITJ.

Pranav Arora - 7 years ago

@Pranav Arora But, wouldnt BITS-Goa be better? Im really confused...can you shed some light on it?

Anish Puthuraya - 7 years ago

@Anish Puthuraya Well, I have no idea. Last year I had the opportunity to go to BITS-Goa (and pursue CSE) but I didn't for the reasons I don't remember. You should search over the internet about it, you will find better responses. IITJ-CSE is good I suppose because my friend who is currently studying there seems to like it. I don't know anyone from BITS-Goa.

@Pranav Arora Thanks, Ill keep that in mind...Any other IITs where I might get CSE/EEE/Mech? Particularly those which are a bit more closer to the middle or south in India?

@Anish Puthuraya My city isn't so far from Mumbai. ;)

Check this. Maybe you could try for Indore or Hyderabad?

Anish Puthuraya - 7 years ago

Not to be rude, but read the bitsat statistics 2014. I am thinking even I will not get CS in bits pilani!

Avineil Jain - 7 years ago

@Avineil Jain I do not think so. You have got 374374 marks which I think should be sufficient. Although 256256 students have got 400\geq 400 marks in BITSAT, it is quite likely that most of these students will get into IITs and hence would not go into BITS making it easy for you if you are planning to get admission into BITS. Even though there is no foolproof assurance about it I reckon it is sensible to keep hope. All the Best.

@Sudeep Salgia Thanks, and you should mention another 1900 students above 350 out of which 600 will be above 375. Truly, I see no chance !

@Avineil Jain Hey @Avineil Jain ! I am myself thinking of joining BITS-Pilani this year, hope to see you there! :D

Sorry. Edited.

Hi anish..I will be answering mains this year..seeing my score in the coaching exams i might just be able to clear it...any advice or tips for these last two months of prep..also how did you divide your time between boards and jee...

Shweta Salelkar - 6 years, 4 months ago

Follow a structured plan. Thats one advice I cant give more focus on.. I would suggest you to do as much as is required for boards, and keep your focus on JEE-Mains.

Focus more on solving problems and try to find some shortcut methods of solving problems if you can. During the exam, keep your cool (THE most important thing) and leave the questions that you cant solve within 5 min, and move on to the next question. It will greatly improve your chances of scoring higher.

Anish Puthuraya - 6 years, 3 months ago

Ok thanks..will keep this in mind.. :) Also I wanted to know about the normalisation...why were so many people unhappy with it? Is it because people in state boards with a lesser percentage ended up getting a better rank than those in a cbse board with higher percentage?

Shweta Salelkar - 6 years, 3 months ago

@Shweta Salelkar The Normalization resulted in hilariously unfair ranks. For eg. A student with 89% in boards and 267 in JEE ended up having an AIR of 12160, while another student with 98% in boards and mere 159 in JEE ended up with AIR 3310.

You see that the system was more focused on Boards than JEE. And as many people know, JEE is one of the most difficult examinations in India, and so, giving almost no weightage to that is absolute nonsense!
