Asymptote Support

I was wondering if Brilliant could implement asymptote so that we can draw diagrams and post them a little easier. Also, the $$ tags for latex might be a little better.

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

Comments

We would love to provide support for asymptote and other more complex packages, but there are serious technical issues, especially when considering people on slow computers and slow internet connections. We are exploring a way to make this possible, but we don't have a date for when it will be live.

Here is a hack that allows you to post images around Brilliant.org:

  • Upload an image to imgur or some other image hosting service.
  • Click on the uploaded image to get the direct link to the image (it should look like i.imgur.com/LeTersNumbers.jpg).
  • Copy that link, and embed it in your post by doing this ![Alt text](https://i.imgur.com/G66iLMC.jpg). Make sure that it says https is at the beginning of your image link. If it isn't there after you paste it, you can safely add it yourself.
  • Preview and Post!

Oh, it works!

I wanted to try it but when I clicked on preview, the image looked really small. But after posting the comment the image looks normal.

Thanks for that!

What's going on with the Asymptote project now?

Not sure I understand. We have no plans to support it at this time since it would exclude to many people.

@Silas Hundt Okay. I was just asking if Brilliant will ever incorporate a feature (similar in nature or perhaps even Asymptote itself) where you can draw geometry problems and assist in aiding others with diagrams. :D

Finn Hulse - 7 years ago

@Finn Hulse Not soon. It is much more likely that we will implement the ability to take a picture of a drawing since billions of people could use such a feature easily (via their phones) rather than millions.

@Silas Hundt Ah, I see. That's actually a fantastic idea. :D

Finn Hulse - 7 years ago

I support both of these changes. The only thing we might have to worry about is places where $ is already used as a dollar sign. These will have to be changed to $\$$.
