This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

Well, there's not much to the AMC. It's a series of 25 questions ranging from easiest to hardest in a rough order. The questions range from basic arithmetic to higher order word problems.

The first 10 questions are worth 3 marks each and are multiple choice questions. The next 10 are also multiple choice but are worth 4 marks. The next 5 are worth 5 marks and are multiple choice as well. The final 5 questions are number answers. You have to write down your answer. Q26 is worth 6 marks, Q27 is worth 7, and so on.

The AMC tests your ability to solve questions really quickly rather than how elegantly you solve it since you only have 75 minutes to complete.

Don't worry, I'm already on Slack. I don't know where we can get the 2015 question paper (I was doing Junior Division last year). I can tell you some of the questions though. This year, I'm also in Intermediate division.
