I have studied the structure of cockroach in my text book, but here's something that I learnt in real life observation. Feels like an experience worth sharing to me...
Though most of the people call cockroaches filthy and don't like them around, I feel they're pretty cool....

I've got one cockroach in my custody since 6 days and it's long with it's antenna .
The cockroach keeps its legs and antennas clean from the wheat flour in the box, it eats it up (See the bent antenna in the second image? It's cleaning it with mouth)
It can't reach it's back otherwise I guess it'll clean it up too! Cockroaches eat only as much as they need, they don't spoil food unnecessarily (as per the amount of flour observed in the box).
Like most other insects, they DO NOT like to be on their back (upside down, I mean) ... I'd appreciate if someone gives a reason, I guess something like pressure difference and all (I really don't know, wanna know!)

Hope that changes your mind a little bit about cockroaches and you'll give a before smashing a cockroach when you come across one...

Though your note seems convincing, I would still smash a cockroach if I see one because they are too creepy xD

At my biology tution, the teacher bisected a cockroach once, it was pretty cool, there are actually all the parts inside which were shown in the book, you should cut it up some time and see, its pretty awesome on the inside, you can even see its alimentary canal pretty clearly

Ohh , You have Biology too ? This Note Reminds me of my great fear to cockroaches , When I'am small Kid , I remember , I always got scared from cockroaches , Even I have lot of Scaring Nightmares of Cockroaches in my childhood. But really you have great capability to watch 'bisected cockroach' . Ehhh , I really got scared even imagine me in this situation for a second. Thumbs Up ! ⌣¨

I'm kind of liking the creature, like my pet, so I don't think I can cut him till he's alive -_-
LOL

What's it like keeping a cockroach as a pet ? I'm just curious since none of my friends have a roach as their pet !
I must say cockroaches are also much conscious... :D
Well, these are the same reasons why cockroaches are my papa's 'favorite's animal'. I agree with those thoughts and my liking to them is surely genetic.

I was also interested in the origin of the name "cockroach". That's pretty interesting - "cock" and "roach"(well, what's a roach, BTW? The only roach I know is Kemar Roach, West Indies Bowler XD). Any biological reference?

You know what an electronic roach in Android called? "App"roach :P

I feel the opposite about smashing a cockroach. I like seeing an alive cockroach as it looks kinda amazing but when I see one dead with all it's gut spilled everywhere (Like after getting squashed by a door) I feel disgusted.
Great work. I would salute you if in the same way you study about a lizard.

That'll need some more courage and a bigger box because the lizard is really hard to catch and even more difficult to handle, feed etc.... what would i feed her man! Will try for sure if my folks don't freak out :P
Cockroach has a hypogynous mouth, the mouth parts are situated around the head and the mouth faces downwards, it has a "biting and chewing" type of mouth ... hope this helps , i dont think there's anything related to pressure diff
