Brilliant down for maintenance

I'm perfectly fine with brilliant being down for maintenance but can I just know when the site will be down? It is very disheartening to log in and find the message saying brilliant is down. Also, if brilliant is down, is there any way to know it beforehand so that I need not log in? Thanks in advance for any help.
