Brilliant Live

This is just an idea I have been thinking about. What if Brilliant had live events all over the world? Math rallies in malls. Outdoor problem solving events. Multiple age groups. Prizes. Awesomeness...(which just comes with the territory). Some could even just be spontaneous. Points can be awarded during these live events. Problems can even be created and solved, and challenged during these live events.

Not only would do I think that this idea would get Brilliant out in the open but it would change the way people love math.

Just a thought...

As a teacher I am always thinking of ways I could get this started...

Let me know what you think, The benefits, the costs, and everything else...

(posting raw ideas on the internet is usually a bad idea but I figured I'd give this one a shot)

  Easy Math Editor

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

Comments

I would love to see the day when we could have math rallies in a mall, and not be gawked at by the general populace.

I think the key is, especially for for a growing start-up, is to be gawked at. Also those who are actually spending time solving the problem love the opportunity (even if they state and believe otherwise) to prove their understanding to others. Just my belief.
