BRILLIAthon

From today, I will start a contest.

LaTeX is \(20\) points.

Intelligible Solution is 1010 points.

I will not include pictures and animations, but if you choose to use it, I'll award 11 point for each (out of generosity)

Uniqueness is 1010 points.

And 33 points for (you may disagree with this, but I see this as an essential part of a solution) using an algorithmic structure.

Total points is 4545. (4343 excluding the pictures and animations.)

Dates are: 1717th July to 1919th July

Maximum participants (excluding invited people) is 55. Including the invited participants, the maximum amount of participants is 77.

The reason for participants restriction is due to my studies and limited time on my BRILLIANT 'shift'.

My BRILLIANT 'shift' is 9:009:00am to 3:003:00pm. My break is 11:0011:00 to 11:3011:30 am and my lunchtime is 12:3012:30 to 1:301:30pm - don't disturb during this time. After 3:003:00pm, I am not available till the next day. My studies for Year 1010 and 1111 has primarily shaped my 'shift'.

There will be 55 problems - 11 for each day. Time of posting will vary, so be aware.

If you get all 43\4543 \backslash 45 points, you will receive the title of 'BRILLIAthon Star'. If not all, the highest amount will receive that title. (Hint: consecutive 'BRILLIAthon Star' titles can push your bid for first place.)

All participants will be awarded with shaping one of my problems of their choice

The top 33 will be awarded with posting a problem for me - if I can solve it, I may post a solution.

The winner's award will be announced at the awards ceremony...

Good luck!

  Easy Math Editor

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

Comments

Sorry, Percy, @Siddharth Chakravarty, and @Yajat Shamji, I will definitely solve all the question but I won't write a long elaborated explanation due to time constraints. Thus, i won't be participating. Good luck to all the three of you!

Yes, that is completely fine, after all, Brilliant is all about learning.

Siddharth Chakravarty - 11 months ago

You don't have to post solutions. All you have to do is solve the problem. The solution posting is entirely up to you.

Yajat Shamji - 11 months ago

I also have a lot a work pending, so now I don't think I'll participate in the contests. Sorry @Yajat Shamji and @Percy Jackson! I'll definitely solve the problems, though.

Vinayak Srivastava - 11 months ago

Its alright, everyone, who's leaving, I'm late though......LOL

I will participateeee @Yajat Shamji

@Hamza Anushath - Dunno, happens with me too, I can't mention anyone if they haven't at least seen the page.

@A Former Brilliant Member That’s because you can’t just type @Hamza Anushath, you have to type @hamzaanushath, and a table will show up, and you choose the right user.

@Jeff Giff I know @Jeff Giff , but when the table appears, some other names come, not Yajat Shamji, or Hamza Anushath.

Third participant!

Yajat Shamji - 11 months ago

Wow, you are generous, 2 points for pics and animations, I'm just basking in the glow of your generosity. @Yajat Shamji LOL XD

I would like to participate. But I would also like to know when the problems are posted, and when the solutions are expected. Thanks!

Yajat Shamji - 11 months ago

@David Vreken, you have less than 22 hours to say whether you're in or not.

Yajat Shamji - 11 months ago

Update: Only 77 participants are allowed (again, due to limited time and my studies).

So, David Vreken, we're all counting on you now...

Update: Due to timing of the awards ceremony, there will be no certificates and the winner's prize will be announced at the awards ceremony.

Also, you've got less than 1010 minutes to post the solutions to the problems of Day 33 and nobody has solved it or posted a solution on it...

For sinx=cosx=tanx\sin x = \cos x = \tan x, there are more than two coordinates that make the equation false, making the question impossible to answer.

David Vreken - 10 months, 3 weeks ago

In the ranges: 0x10 \leq x \leq 1 and 0y10 \leq y \leq 1?

Yajat Shamji - 10 months, 3 weeks ago

@Yajat Shamji x is what radians or degrees? And also I see many co-ordinates as @David Vreken said.

Siddharth Chakravarty - 10 months, 3 weeks ago

@Siddharth Chakravarty No, it's just co-ordinates.

Yajat Shamji - 10 months, 3 weeks ago

@Yajat Shamji If 1 xx unit is 1 degree, then 90 xx units are 90 degrees, where the co-ordinate will be (90,1) and in radians, it will be (pi,1). So which unit it is?

Siddharth Chakravarty - 10 months, 3 weeks ago

@Yajat Shamji And now you deleted the problem also. Why, because it was wrong?

Siddharth Chakravarty - 10 months, 3 weeks ago

@Siddharth Chakravarty No, I reposted it.

Yajat Shamji - 10 months, 3 weeks ago

@Yajat Shamji Unless you had asked the difference of the y-coordinates because ratios don't have units it did not matter but for x-coordinates the units matter.

Siddharth Chakravarty - 10 months, 3 weeks ago

@Yajat Shamji sinx=cosx\sin x = \cos x has a solution of (π4,22)(\frac{\pi}{4}, \frac{\sqrt{2}}{2}), but tanπ422\tan \frac{\pi}{4} \neq \frac{\sqrt{2}}{2}, sinx=tanx\sin x = \tan x has a solution of (0,0)(0, 0), but cos00\cos 0 \neq 0, and cosx=tanx\cos x = \tan x has a solution of (0.6662,0.7862)(0.6662, 0.7862), but sin0.66620.7862\sin 0.6662 \neq 0.7862. That's three coordinates by just assuming at least two of the equations are true.

David Vreken - 10 months, 3 weeks ago

@David Vreken I have changed it - you can use a graphing calculator.

Yajat Shamji - 10 months, 3 weeks ago

Yajat Shamji - 10 months, 3 weeks ago

Because it's 33pm...

Yajat Shamji - 10 months, 3 weeks ago

Update: The awards ceremony will happen tomorrow at 11:3011:30am.

Which means you've got until tomorrow, 11:2511:25am to post and edit solutions...

Yajat Shamji - 10 months, 3 weeks ago

I want to leave the contest, please I don't have much time to use for writing solutions for the Brilliathon otherwise the other things which are more important are not done. Also, I wanted more elegant and hard problems plus the changing of the problem's wording has become a mess. Thanks :)

Siddharth Chakravarty - 10 months, 3 weeks ago

That leaves 3 participants in the contest, I left too, as timezone problem was killing mysleep, and he reduced Uniquness points for posting late :) @Siddharth Chakravarty

@A Former Brilliant Member Nice there, although I would suggest that suppose when you want to type the angle, the whole text should get cleared. Like we have to delete the whole text, and then write the angle.

@Siddharth Chakravarty Of course, I'll think of it, thanks for the idea!

@A Former Brilliant Member @Percy Jackson, when I clear the second label box to type the round off number, it wouldnt allow me

Your coding is flawed in that part...

@Frisk Dreemurr Yes, you can type in your number in between and then clear the text leaving the number you have typed so that you can type.
