This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

@Shariq Lalani That's it? Sounds very under inventive compared to the other ones... But there's nothing wrong in it... they are colours...

4) Feathers are weighed using the avoirdupois pound which is approximately 454 grams whereas gold is weighed using troy pound which is approximately 373 grams. So feathers are heavier!

However the weight also depends on the gravitational field.

Pranshu Gaba - 6 years, 2 months ago

1) The dates are in BC.

2) Stairs.

3) They were married. "every SINGLE person"

4) To destroy the fun (I'm sorry though), a pound of feathers is heavier. It's the answer to this old problem of mine, and go see the solutions why.

5) IDK... (is it somewhat related to the dress? lol just kidding)

Jeremy Bansil - 6 years, 2 months ago

For 1st question answer is the time is before christ. therfore the counting was done

Naman Khajanchi - 6 years, 2 months ago

Ans 1- Tom was 15 years old in 1985 BC. Therefore 5 years later it will be 1980 BC when he'll be 20.

Ans 2- Temperature

Ans 3- They both were in a relationship, the others who died were 'SINGLE' persons.

Ans 4-Gold's weight is measured in a different system (troy system) therefore pound of feather is heavier.

Ans 5- A soft toy of a zebra made by the company, Black and White shown in a black and white TV, and the TV's outer design is Black and white, and the person sees it with a black and blue lens.

Arpit MIshra - 6 years, 2 months ago

The answer to the second may also be the "weight"

Ravi Dwivedi - 5 years, 7 months ago

Even when weighed in air, they will have the same mass. The reason the feather floats in air when dropped is not due to buoyant force, but due to air resistance, which impedes its fall by resisting it's downward motion.

10 years back all mobiles were black and white or black and blue and at that time no body cared to know the name of the mobile. (i was talking about my region)

Kushal Patankar - 6 years, 2 months ago

My answer to 5). A boy falling from the top of the stairs down to the bottom. :P

Sandeep Bhardwaj - 6 years, 2 months ago

  • Simple.Tom is from tom and jerry (anything can happen)

  • ph levels or chameleon (see my last point)

  • As you can see @Sandeep Bhardwaj sir is reading news--->"Every single person " died. And "2 people" survived (like ramesh died and mahesh survived.)

  • Once I bought a lottery ticket for 1 pound I won gold and i felt heavy and my friend came second and he got a flamingo and he felt heavier. So feathers are heavier.(Remember both were of equal values = a pound).

  • Chameleon is black and white, and black and white, and black and white, and black and white, and black and blue !. conclusion chameleon=what\boxed{chameleon=what} obviously coz chameleon = chameleon=what?
