Will meet you after my 12th exams ------>14/03/14
Departing with a simple question
I have two identical pistols. I decided to do a simple experiment with it.
i reached the top of my building loaded one pistol with a bullet of mass "m" and loaded the other bullet with mass "7.5m" pointed both the gun towards the ground (bringing both the guns to the same level) and pulled the triggers at the same time
WHICH OF THE BULLET WILL REACH THE GROUND FIRST?
1.BULLET A (mass-m)
2.BULLET B(mass-7.5m)
3.Both of them because gravity acts equally on them
4.Information is not sufficient to give the answer
After answering think about what will happen if both are shot horizontally from the top of the building??

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

Oh, when I commented, he hadn't posted any question, it just said "will meet you after 12th exam".

Ignoring air resistance, option 1 is correct because the lighter bullet will get some initial acceleration from the pistol. Then only gravity does the rest. But the heavier bullet will get a lesser acceleration because of more inertia.
With air resistance and all sort of other things, option 2 is correct. Because it has more inertia, it falls first. If there's wind, the lighter bullet gets carried away and again the heavy bullet touches the ground first.
