CBSE Boards 2014-15 - Part II

Hello friends!

The previous Note had got tooo many replies (not that I'm complaining !!) resulting in a delay in it's opening , also we had discussed about things relating to stuff other than Exams !!

I really don't mind if you guys want to talk about it , just that I'll have to create yet another note , like a new note after every exam !!

Well, I don't have anything new to say to you guys , just that I'd love it if all my friends who are giving the Boards and other equivalent exams comment here and share your experience with all the Brilliant Minds out here . There's no discrimination between Class 12 , Class 11 and Class 10 students , anybody can comment here relating to their exams .¨\huge \ddot\smile

It would be even better if you comment after each exam , so we can get a fair idea on the relative difficulty of questions from the different Boards .

In the last note , some of my friends were very active in the sense that as soon as they got home from the Exam Hall , they shared their experiences with us .

  Easy Math Editor

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

I am only expecting 50-55/70. @Azhaghu Roopesh M @Ronak Agarwal @Mvs Saketh @Vraj Mehta @Pratik Shastri @megh choksi @Mahimn Bhatt @Raghav Vaidyanathan

Ronak Agarwal - 6 years, 3 months ago

@Ronak Agarwal You have external examiner right, are they lenient? Or the coaching institute plays a role in your practicals too?

Krishna Ar - 6 years, 3 months ago

@Krishna Ar We have external examiner, coaching institute doesn't play any role in my practicals, but our school physics teacher do have a role in it, and he is impressed by my school performance( 240/240 in complete 11th term and 220/240 in complete 12 term) and says he will recommend to examiner good marks for me for practicals also at the day of practicals, I completed my experiments succesfully and gave all right answers in Viva.

Hence expecting 30/30 in practicals.

Ronak Agarwal - 6 years, 3 months ago

@User 123 I have got loads of Books adorning my shelves , just confused on which should I recommend !!

The following are the ones that I use :

JEE :

  • DC Pandey (the complete series of 5 books)

  • Objective Physics by Pramod Agarwal (Vol I AND II) this book contains questions asked in Engineering exams from around India

  • I've got the Resonance DLPD Material too : Now this is the one that I'll recommend along with the DC Pandey series

User 123 - 6 years, 3 months ago

@User 123 Maybe after your next exam , if you want to comment here , you will be most welcome :)

And btw, why don't you ask any friend of yours to reshare your questions, instead of asking Calvin sir ?

A Former Brilliant Member - 6 years, 3 months ago

@A Former Brilliant Member Just have another friend (other than you) on this site: Samarpit Swain, and he must have reshared it a thousand times by now. Thus all those who follow him must have seen the question by now (that is if they did not get too bored of it).

User 123 - 6 years, 3 months ago

@User 123 What Pranjal says is correct too . @Simran Malik

Well , tomorrow I'll ask a friend of mine with to do you a favor . Nice guy , he'll definitely help you out ! but I will just ask him , since I can't force him to !!

@A Former Brilliant Member That's really very, very kind of you!

User 123 - 6 years, 3 months ago

@User 123 No offence but being a moderator, let me tell you that its not a good idea to ask for reshares. Rather post some good question and mods will make it popular if they'll feel question is nice.

Pranjal Jain - 6 years, 3 months ago

@Pranjal Jain Haha actually what happened was that her questions didn't get the audience that they deserved !

I bet it's natural for a question maker to make sure everyone views their question , don't you think so ? It's almost similar to that situation in which a question of yours had got 400 pts , and you doubted if your question had an error .

A Former Brilliant Member - 6 years, 3 months ago

@A Former Brilliant Member Yeah I agree but its fine to ask for a view by posting a note rather than asking Calvin Sir to reshare. FYI, almost every problem is viewed by at least one of the mods.

Pranjal Jain - 6 years, 3 months ago

@Pranjal Jain I understand what you're saying and I'll bear it in mind. I'm truly sorry for having asked for it. Azhaghu's bet about a question maker was right in my case. I'm really sorry for having bothered you all.

Ans to Q 5.18 :

Let's assume that a neutral point lies at a distance d from the long straight horizontal cable carrying a current of 2.5 A . Let the horizontal field of Earth be denoted by BHB_{H} .

μ0I2πd=BHd(cm)=1.5we get this after we input the values that we have \therefore \dfrac{\mu_{0}I}{2\pi d} = B_{H} \\ d(cm) = 1.5 \quad \text{we get this after we input the values that we have}

Now the condition of neutral point (as given in the question ) is satisfied by the point which lies above the long straight ...... cable . But there can be many such points , therefore the locus is a straight line .

The answer : There exists a line of neutral points above the cable at a distance of 1.5 cm .

Let's take the Magnetic Magnetic Field produced by the Cable as BCB_{C}

When calculating the Resultant field above the cable , BCB_{C} acts in the same direction as BHB_{H} and for Resultant Magnetic Field below the cable , it acts in a direction opp. to BHB_{H} .

Now what follows is just some calculations and stuff , I hope that I've made myself clear !

Rajorshi Chaudhuri - 6 years, 3 months ago

@Rajorshi Chaudhuri They are two different programming languages . Java is both a application developing software and a platform to build projects while C++ is just a prog. language .

They are similar in some aspects that both can be connected to databases for some extensive programming.

P.S. I have studied both , so I am saying this . C++ is boring to work in since you just have to see a black screen forever , but JAVA's IDEs are built for OOP Programming and RAD processes ,so it's a great experience .

Ritu Roy - 6 years, 2 months ago

@Ritu Roy In IP(Informatics Practices) the things that we learn are :

  • Java

  • MySQL

  • HTML , XML

And CS(Computer Science) includes

  • C++

  • A Database Management software (maybe MySQL only)

  • Boolean

This is as far I can say about CS since I am an IP student myself . I'll ask my friends about it .

@Pranjal Jain ,@Raghav Vaidyanathan : Am I correct about the CS Topics ?

@Ritu Roy - Are you really 16 years old ? I'm asking this because a girl of your exact same name was in my class when I was 9 years old .

A Former Brilliant Member - 6 years, 2 months ago

@A Former Brilliant Member Yep the contents are right for CS.

And yeah for further distinguishing:

Computer Science is the study of engineering and principles involved in the engineering, design, development, integration and testing of computer systems at all levels. This includes applied areas of Math and Science, Materials Engineering, Electrical and Electronics theory and Engineering, and Programming fundamentals.

Information Practice is

  1. To understand the application development environment.

  2. To gain programming Skills in GUI Programming Tool and Database Creation in RDBMS.

  3. To design, program and develop database application using GUI Programming Tool and RDBMS.

  4. To learn database connectivity using Visual Basic as Front-end tool.

  5. To develop ability to use the Open Source Technology.

Actually there's no big difference since we aren't going to get jobs based on our experience from CS or IP . All that matters based on the subject we learn at colleges .

A Former Brilliant Member - 6 years, 2 months ago

@A Former Brilliant Member Oh, Okay. Thanks.

All the 'indian' schools here follow CBSE curriculum. Well, its not different compared to India. But here we have to learn hindi as our second lang till 8th(compulsory). That's one thing i love. In such schools, you also have arab, nepali and a few srilankans as your classmates besides students from all over india. Sad (very sad) part is that we cant participate in ntse, olympiads and so on. You also get to compete and be friends with filipino, british, american, arab students etc as competitors in interschool events. Teachers in india are far better in india, i believe (generally).

  • Bahrain (at your suggestion)

  • Singapore (Omkar suggested it to me)

  • Paris (The city of Love :P , it's just that I know French and I would very much like to put it to test )

A Former Brilliant Member - 6 years, 2 months ago

Everybody has varied interests @Ronak Agarwal . But allow me to try to get you interested in CS:

Class: They are the definition of a virtual representation of a real world entity. It is like a set of rules which say how the this representation is to be made, what it's behavior is, etc. eg: Blueprint for remote control car

Methods: The way the representation behaves and/or interacts with other representations or programs is defined inside the methods(functions). eg: The behavior of the car(lights, moving forwards, turning, also includes changing batteries). large part of it made possible through an interface that connects it to the user(remote control).

Object: This is a virtual representation which is now fully created according to the rules specified and behaves in accordance to the given rules. eg: Fully built remote control car

Your language is too complicated.

Ronak Agarwal - 6 years, 2 months ago

@Ronak Agarwal Okay, consider this:

We want to model some real life things in a program. When I say real life things, take for example a block of wood. How will we do this? One obvious way is to make functions that are related to each property of the block(like one to fix mass, size, colour, type of wood, etc) and run them all together. But this is a difficult task, I don't even think you can do this.

Classes are the answer to such problems. They are the implementation of a programming paradigm called Object oriented programming. By programming paradigm, we mean our approach to programming and problem solving. To put it in simpler words, coordinate bashing is a problem solving paradigm in mathematical Olympiads and so is using pure geometry. Object oriented programming is a tactic used to model the real world by thinking of it as a collection of interrelated objects which behave in certain manners. The object is the central concept here.

Take our block of wood. Using classes, we will define a class called "Blockwood" which will enable us to wrap up all the properties of this block into a single entity. In the class, we will define the characteristics of the block, like colour, size, shape, mass, etc. But that itself doesn't make it a good model of a block of wood. We also need to specify how this block will interact with other parts of the program. This is done by using methods(functions). The functions define how the class object will behave in situations. For example, a function reflectlight() can be defined which returns 1 if light falls on the block(you will understand this as we continue).

Now that we have our class, we can define an object of this class "Blockwood". Let this object be named BW. The program recognizes BW as an entity, much like how we recognize a block of wood. You can only interact with BW in the program through ways that are allowed by the methods. Much like in the real world, where we cannot simply transform wood into gold or put our hands through it. The object interacts only in the way it is supposed to.

Observe now that once we have such an object BW, we need not be worried about it's inner workings and methods. The user of the program is unaware of all the complicated code and is instead just presented with an object which he/she can work with and is familiar with.

Also, having one class is no fun. It's when multiple classes come that the real story begins. What if we define a class called "Rock"? We define all the properties of rock. The interesting part now is that we can create a relationship between Rock and Blockwood. As Blockwood is already defined, we can add methods to Blockwood which can model real world relationships with Rock and vice-versa. For example, a function "makesound()" which returns 1 if a rock and a block of wood are struck together. Now we have two interrelated classes, which can be used to make objects which interact with one another, similar to the way they do in the real world.

What's above is just an amateur's take on the use and importance of classes. The true power of classes is much more profound, but understanding this is the first step. Hope it helps @Ronak Agarwal

@Ronak Agarwal Do you like coding ? If so , ignore these technical definitions for now , you'll be able to understand them later as you progress as a coder.

This worked for me , earlier I used to memorise these definitions , but I soon got tired of them . So I ignored them and started practicing coding (here on B'ant and some other sites) and later on when I came back to those definitions , I understood them quite clearly !

Good Luck to you :)

To all JEE test takers,

If you get selected to iit or any very reputed colleges, what subjects will you all take? How will they related to your current subjects like CS and IP?

I checked iit bombay site, where i saw so many subcategories in electric dept. Do you have to attend all the lectures, or you get to choose some? Does your coaching centre offer pieces of advice on the same?

Thanx in advance @Pranjal Jain , @Harshvardhan Mehta , @Gautam Sharma , @Azhaghu Roopesh M , @Mahimn Bhatt , @Ronak Agarwal , @Pratik Shastri , @Vraj Mehta , @Cody Martin and others..

Actually my coaching centre doesn't give me any advice , actually they lack the sources to do do so . I'm sure that they'll get out of business soon , it was a waste going there . Actually Pranjal will be able to guide you more since he goes to Resonance , the best place ever :)

A Former Brilliant Member - 6 years, 2 months ago

Well, I believe that whatever C++/Python/MySQL I learnt in these two years would certainly be helpful if I get CS in any IIT. I'll get an edge over others on writing better algorithms. I don't know what lectures do we have to attend over there. What all I have heard is of weekends which doesn't seems relevant here. =P
