Climate change: Greenhouse Gases.

There are many greenhouse gases but let look at 5 and their atoms. 1. Carbon dioxide(CO2) Cardon dioxide has 1 carbon and 2 oxygen. Right now there are about 43.1 billons tons of CO2 in the atmosphere. 2. Methane-(CH4) One carbon and 4 hydrogens. 3. Nitrous oxide(N2O) 2 nitrogen and 1 oxygen. 4. Ozone(O3) 3 Oxygen. Yes ozone is a greenhouse gas, but it is also helpful or harmful, but it is depending on where "YOU" live, for example when you inhale ozone this can cause lung damage and this is very dangerous. 5. Water vapor, and yes water vapor is a greenhouse gas. How??? Well, water vapor differs from other greenhouse gases in that changes in its atmospheric concentrations are linked not to human activities directly, but rather to the warming that results from the other greenhouse gases we emit. Warmer air holds more water. Water vapor is the most important greenhouse gas, I am no kidding it's true that water vapor is the largest contributor to the Earth's greenhouse effect, in fact, water vapor is the cause of most global warming, 60% of global warming to be exact, water vapor does not control the Earth's temperature, but is instead controlled by the temperature.

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

Not much to worry about... thankfully this has all happened before:

Quoted from here:

"In the Roman Warm Period (RWP) from AD 1–400, temperatures were 2°C above the current temperatures for that region of the earth. The ‘Medieval Warm Period’ (MWP from AD 950–1300), also known as the ‘Medieval Climate Anomaly’ (MCA) was also warmer than now. Neither of these warm periods could have had anything to do with human-generated CO2. The RWP was a period of flourishing of the Roman empire. The MWP was a very productive time both for crops and the advance of science, logic, architecture, and the arts. On the other hand, the ‘Little Ice Age’ (AD 1300–1870) was a significant period of cold. The shorter crop-growing seasons caused famines, plagues, and widespread poverty."

Yeah like you say "Not much to worry about", but the thing is if we keep doing this, we may destroy the ozone, but this not going to happen C: some say yes and others say no.

OOFMATION ANIMATION - 3 months ago

See though; there is a lot at stake here if we keep doing this.
